A New Hit Game is AMONG US! | Among Us Game Review
Among Us: An iGamer Review
A new game has landed on our planet and it has yet to disappoint the 1.5 million people who have picked it up. This game, of course, is the indie smash hit Among Us. among us was originally released in 2018 by the American game studio innersloth. this hit game was developed by a small group of only three game makers, Marcus bromander, forest Willard, and Amy Liu. Marcus is listed as the designer, artist, and musical composer. forest is listed as the programmer and Amy is listed as the other artist. the game was released in 2018 and is available on steam as well as android and ios mobile devices.
although the game was released two years ago in 2018, it has just recently gained popularity in 2020. it is believed by many that the explosion of popularity is due to the amount of content being streamed by twitch and youtube content creators. many players who first saw the game on their youtube recommended became hooked on the small brightly colored space people and the cartoony but enjoyable surrounding graphics. But, the concept of the game does not seem to match the bright mood of its cartoon-style graphics.
How Does the game work?
Although among us is a game full of pretty little graphics, the concept of the game is all but bright.
THE IMPOSTER: the title of the game derives from the fact that in every game there is an imposter disguised among the players. the game can hold up to 10 people and there can be a maximum of three imposters per game. the goal of the imposters is to attempt to kill all crewmates (players) before they can complete all of their tasks. imposters can kill players by either walking up to them and killing them or by sabotaging the map such as depleting oxygen or blowing up the reactor.
THE CREWMATES: The role of the crewmates is to run around the map and attempt to complete all of the tasks that are assigned to them before they can be killed. crewmates have the ability to host emergency meetings if they have evidence they need to present to the group. on top of this, every time a body is discovered, a meeting is automatically called. during these meetings, the crewmates have the opportunity to accuse people they think may be an imposter and attempt to convince everyone else to kick them out of the game. The crewmates achieve victory if they can either vote out all of the imposters or by completing their tasks before all people are killed.
THE GHOSTS: THe ghosts are players who have either been voted out or killed by the imposter. if you did not complete your tasks when alive, the ghosts' job is to complete all of their remaining tasks. Ghosts can use game chat with other ghosts however they can not talk to those who are still alive.
MY REVIEW:
Overall, I would give this game 4.5/5 stars. The game is developed well and is addicting. I have already spent countless hours every day playing this game. It has easily come into the position of one of my most played steam game even though it is the second newest game in my game library. the ability to create little customizable character combinations with hats and skins makes the game just feel more open to any type of player. the concept follows one of the IRL "roleplay" story game maffia. The game allows players to debate and argue their sides while having features such s an auto chat filter in order to keep the game safe for younger audiences. if I had to pick one negative thing about the game, it would be that the game's servers are slightly bugged. there are occasional periods where the servers crash and you are unable to play the game because you can not connect with other people. at the end of the day, however, this is a game I would recommend to people for a long time. and to top it all off, among us 2 is planned to release in 2021!
